WASHINGTON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- DeJuan Blair scored a team-high 20 points with 17 rebounds Saturday, carrying third-ranked Pittsburgh to a record-setting 70-54 win over No. 8 Georgetown.
Blair got plenty of help though. Senior forward Sam Young added 14 points, including the game's first four points, and eight rebounds. Tyrell Biggs also scored 14 points, while Levance Fields scored six with four rebounds and eight assists.
The Panthers held a 33-30 halftime lead, but a 37-24 second half and a whopping 42-18 rebounding advantage helped them to a 14-0 start for the first time in school history.
The schools have split the last two Big East Conference tournament title games, with Pitt winning in 2007, and Georgetown taking the 2006 crown.
Georgetown was led by DaJuan Summers' 22 points.
Greg Monroe scored 15 with eight rebounds, but no other player scored in double figures for the Hoyas (10-2), whose 29-game home winning streak ended.
