EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 44-yard field goal by Justin Kahut in the second quarter was the only score of the game Wednesday and gave Oregon State a 3-0 Sun Bowl win over Pittsburgh.

The Beavers captured the second-lowest Sun Bowl game ever, one in which Oregon State's punter wound up being named the MVP.

Johnny Hekker punted 10 times for a total of 450 yards and five of the kicks finished inside the Pittsburgh 20-yard line.

Strong winds plagued the offenses and Oregon State's Lyle Moevao was able to complete only half his 42 passes for 193 yards with two interceptions.

Nevertheless, the Beavers (9-4) won their fifth straight bowl game. The last team to down Oregon State in a bowl game was Pittsburgh, which won the 2002 Insight Bowl.

Oregon State played without Pac-10 offensive player of the year Jacquizz Rodgers, who sat out with a shoulder injury.

Pittsburgh quarterback Bill Stull completed only seven passes in 24 attempts before leaving with a hand injury in the fourth period. The Panthers lost their third straight bowl game since the victory over Oregon State in 2002 and finished this season at 9-4.

Arizona State and Catholic University played to a 0-0 tie in the 1940 Sun Bowl.
