FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Case Keenum threw for a touchdown and ran for two more Wednesday in carrying Houston to a 34-28 victory over Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl.

It was the first bowl victory for Houston in 28 years.

Keenum completed 22 passes for 252 yards and suffered only one interception. He led the Cougars on two touchdown drives in the second half to break open what had been a 17-17 halftime tie.

Bryce Beall added 135 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown for Houston and caught four passes for 92 yards.

Houston, which finished the season at 8-5, won four of its last five games. It had dropped eight consecutive bowl contests.

Jared Tew gained 149 yards on 27 carries for the Falcons (8-5), who lost in this bowl game by six points for the second straight year. California defeated Air Force last year 42-36.

Keenum drove Houston 69 yards in seven plays on the opening possession of the second half and scored on a 4-yard run to put the Cougars in front for good.
