LOUISVILLE, Ky., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Oscar Bellfield made a layup with 17 seconds remaining Wednesday, delivering Nevada-Las Vegas a 56-55 upset win over No. 18 Louisville.
The Cardinals (8-3) rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and took a two-point lead when Terrence Williams hit a pair of free throws with 1:44 to play.
A foul shot by Tre'Von Willis brought UNLV within one with 1:17 to go and Louisville missed a chance to expand on its lead when Bellfield stole the ball from Andre McGee.
Bellfield then produced his layup for the final points of the game and Williams missed a jumper with 3 seconds left that would have won it for Louisville.
The Rebels (12-2) captured their seventh straight game. Rene Rougeau scored 17 points for UNLV and Willis had 16.
Louisville was led by Preston Knowles with 11 points. The Rebels led by as many as 14 points in the first half.
