
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Curtis Sanford posted his fifth NHL shutout and Pavol Demitra had a goal and an assist Sunday night to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-0 win over Ottawa.
Stanford finished with 18 saves for the Canucks, who won for the first time in their last three games.
Demitra assisted on Henrik Sedin's goal at 8:17 of the first period and then scored, after assists by Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin at 10:16 of the second. Alexander Edler scored at 17:10 of the second, with an assist by Daniel Sedin, to cap the scoring.
Martin Gerber made 29 saves for Ottawa, which has lost three straight and sits in last place in the Northeast Division.
Vancouver learned Sunday that forward Taylor Pyatt will be out of action indefinitely as a result of a broken foot he sustained Friday in a loss to Edmonton.
