NHL: Washington 4, Toronto 1

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Brooks Laich and Alex Ovechkin each scored twice for the Washington Capitals Sunday in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jose Theodore made 23 saves for Washington, which has won three straight games and eight of nine.

Niklas Hagman notched Toronto's goal.

Vesa Toskala blocked 25 shots for the Leafs, who have scored just four goals in their past three games, all losses.
