DENVER, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Wojtek Wolski's shootout goal was the difference Saturday night when the Colorado Avalanche beat Detroit 4-3.
Peter Budaj stopped 41 shots for the Avs, who have beaten the Red Wings in both meetings between the two teams this season.
Ryan Smyth and John-Michael Liles had a goal and an assist apiece and Ruslan Salei had a goal for Colorado, which has won three of its last four games -- and was playing its first game without the services of leading scorer Paul Stastny. He sustained a broken forearm when he was hit by a puck Tuesday in the Avs' victory over Phoenix.
Tomas Holmstrom had a goal and two assists for Detroit, which has lost two straight after winning three in a row. Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk also scored goals for the Red Wings.
Ty Conklin made 29 saves on 32 shots for Detroit.
