HOUSTON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Matt Schaub threw for 328 yards and two scores Sunday, carrying the Houston Texans past Chicago 31-24 and eliminating the Bears form playoff contention.
Schaub completed 27-of-36 passes, including 10 to Andre Johnson, who racked up 148 yards and the two scores. Johnson finished the season as the NFL leader in receptions and receiving yardage with 115 catches for 1,575 yards.
Steve Slaton ran 20 times for 92 yards and one touchdown for Houston. Ryan Moats rushed for another TD.
The Texans (8-8) won five of their last six games to finish with a .500 record for the second consecutive season.
The Bears missed winning the NFC North when Minnesota beat the New York Giants and also failed to clinch a wild card playoff berth so will sit out the post-season for a second year in a row.
Kyle Orton completed 22-of-37 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns for Chicago (9-7), which had a three-game win streak snapped. Orton also ran for a score.
Devin Hester had six catches for 85 yards. Brandon Lloyd and Greg Olsen each caught a scoring pass in the loss.
