NASHVILLE, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Dan Ellis cooled off Detroit by making 38 saves Friday and carrying the Nashville Predators to a 3-2 victory over the Red Wings.

Vernon Fiddler scored the game-winning goal, giving the Predators their third victory in five outings. Kevin Klein and Greg Zanon also scored for Nashville and Martin Erat added two assists.

Detroit had won its previous three games and four of its last five. The Red Wings also came into the contest leading the Western Conference in goals scored with 123.

Ellis, however, came through with just his second win in seven starts. He allowed a goal to Daniel Cleary late in the first period that tied it at 1-1 and then surrendered a score to Mikael Samuelsson 3 minutes into the third period that made it 3-2.

Ty Conklin allowed three goals in 31 shots to take the loss. He was making his fourth straight start in place of Chris Osgood, who is out with a groin strain.
