
RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Blake Wheeler scored twice, Michael Ryder scored the decisive third-period goal and the Boston Bruins beat Carolina 4-2 Saturday for their seventh straight win.
It's the longest Bruins' win streak since March 30-April 14 1993, when Boston won eight straight.
Tim Thomas finished with 29 saves for Boston, which hasn't lost since Dec. 10 and has won 21 of its last 24 games. The Bruins sit atop the Eastern Conference with 56 points.
Matt Cullen and Anton Babchuk scored the Hurricanes' goals and Cam Ward made 18 saves for Carolina.
The game was tied 2-2 with 6:14 left in the third period when Ryder scored the go-ahead goal off a pass from Marc Savard.
Chuck Kobasew scored an empty-net goal for Boston with 15 seconds remaining in the game.
