MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins have signed free agent knuckleball specialist R.A. Dickey to a contract, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Terms were not disclosed.
By signing with the Twins, the 34-year-old right-hander gets a chance to make Minnesota's staff as middle reliever and spot starter.
Last season, he had a 5-8 record with a 5.21 ERA in 32 games (14 starts) for Seattle, and went 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA against the Twins.
In seven major league seasons, Dickey is 21-27 with a 5.57 ERA in 378 1/3 innings.
Earlier this week, he told the Everett (Wash.) Herald that he picked the Twins over a return to the Mariners.
"We will continue to see if we can find upgrades to the pen," assistant general manager Rob Antony wrote in a text message to the Tribune on Christmas Day. "We are not looking at him as an eighth-inning guy."
