Lions try to avert 0-16 record Sunday

DETROIT, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Sunday's season finale at Green Bay gives Detroit is last chance to avoid becoming the NFL's first team with a 0-16 record.

The Lions will try to avert infamy at Lambeau Field, a place where they lost for 13 straight years.

The last time they beat the Packers on the road was 1991 at Milwaukee's County Stadium.

Sunday, they will be 11-point underdogs against the 5-10 Packers, whose foremost goal is not to be Detroit's lone victim this season.

"It would be disappointing," defensive tackle Colin Cole told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

"I don't ever talk about losing," said Coach Mike McCarthy. "I'm fully aware of everything that's going to surround this game, and the position Detroit is in."

The Lions have been so dismal that the Detroit News reported Friday that five of their eight home games this season were not shown on local television because the team failed to reach a sellout, triggering the league's TV blackout policy.
