HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Jeff Adrien scored 21 points Friday and No. 2 Connecticut broke open the game late in the first half en route to a 75-55 victory over Fairfield.
The Huskies ran their record to 11-0 and remained one of 10 schools in major college basketball without a loss this season. Half of those teams are in either the Atlantic Coast Conference or Big East Conference.
Fairfield owned a one-point lead with 11 seconds to play in the opening period, but Connecticut outscored the Stags by 17 points during the rest of the half.
Adrien took 11 shots from the field and hit eight of them. He also grabbed 14 rebounds while Hasheem Thabeet added 20 points and 11 boards.
Connecticut was coming off its most significant win of the season, an 88-83 decision at Gonzaga last Saturday.
Fairfield (8-4) had won seven straight games. The Stags were led by Greg Nero with 16 points. Fairfield has the early lead in the Metro-Atlantic Conference with a 2-0 league record.
