DENVER, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- A broken left forearm will sideline Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stasny indefinitely.
He suffered the injury in the third period of Tuesday's 5-4 overtime victory against Phoenix when he was struck by a slap shot by Phoenix center Olli Jokinen.
Stasny, a second round (44th overall) of the 2005 draft by Colorado, is the Avalanche's top scorer to date with 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 34 games.
"We're going to miss him," defenseman Adam Foote told The Denver Post. "It's a real tough blow for us, but we'll just have to battle as best we can without him. We've withstood injuries before and found a way (and) we'll have to do it again."
Last season, Stasny had 28 goals and 78 points and finished second to Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin in the race for the Calder Trophy, which honors the league's top rookie.
Also, he established an NHL record for the longest point streak by a rookie (20).
