DENVER, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Brett Clark took a Tyler Arnason pass in the slot and blew it past Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov 1:48 into overtime Tuesday, handing Colorado a 5-4.
"I made a fake and then I hit one hard, and fortunately it went into the net," Clark said of his game-winner.
Paul Stastny, John-Michael Liles and Ryan Smyth each had a goal and two assists for the Avalanche, who have won five of eight. Milan Hejduk also scored for Denver.
Andrew Raycroft had 19 saves and was just good enough to get the win, despite giving up two goals to Shane Doan in the last 5 minutes of the third period.
The Coyotes, who have lost two straight after a six-game point streak, also got goals from Olli Jokinen and Joakim Lindstrom.
Bryzgalov had 43 saves in the losing effort.
