EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Brandon Jacobs' two-yard TD run in overtime Sunday night gave the New York Giants a 34-28 win over Carolina and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Jacobs finished with 87 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 24 carries and Derrick Ward rushed for a career-high 215 yards on 15 carries for the Giants (12-3), who earned a first-round bye.

Eli Manning was 17-of-27 passing for 181 yards and one TD. Domenik Hixon caught four passes for 71 yards and Kevin Boss caught a TD pass for the Giants.

DeAngelo Williams rushed for four touchdowns and 108 yards on 24 carries -- extending his league-leading TD total to 18.

Jake Delhomme connected on 11-of-19 passes for 185 yards for the Panthers (11-4). Muhsin Muhammad caught four passes for 80 yards.

The Giants tied the game on a two-point conversion -- Manning connecting with Hixon -- with a little over 3 minutes left in regulation, after Jacobs scored one a one-yard run that was set up when Carolina's Ken Lucas was called for pass interference.

The Panthers had a chance to win in regulation but John Kasay's 50-yard attempt was wide left.

Carolina can win the NFC South title and a number two seed in the NFC playoffs if the St. Louis Rams beat the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday.
