ST. LOUIS, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Shaun Hill threw two scoring passes in about 3 minutes in the fourth quarter, letting the San Francisco 49ers eke out a 17-16 win over the St. Louis Rams.

During an improbable late rally, Hill tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to former Ram Isaac Bruce with 4:03 remaining and a 48-yarder to rookie Josh Morgan with 1:22 to go.

His game-winner came after St. Louis ran three plays without getting a needed first down.

Hill completed 18-of-34 passes for 216 yards but three interceptions and also gained a team-best 45 yards on four carries.

Bruce made seven receptions for 61 yards for the 49ers (6-9), who rose to 4-4 under interim head coach Mike Singletary.

Bruce became the fifth NFL player to make at least 1,000 career receptions and his late score made him second on the league's all-time list in receiving yards (14,875).

Marc Bulger passed for 227 yards, one touchdown and one interception and Josh Brown kicked three Rams' field goals.
