COL BKB: Arizona State 76, BYU 75

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 20 (UPI) -- James Harden scored 30 points and hit the winning free throw with 9.4 seconds to play Saturday to give No. 17 Arizona State a 76-75 win over BYU.

Jeff Pendergraph added 22 points and nine rebounds for the Sun Devils (9-1), who have won five straight.

Jonathan Tavernari had 24 points and Jimmer Fredette 16 points for the previously unbeaten Cougars (10-1), who were off to their best start since the 1987-88 season.

Arizona State trailed much of the game and was behind by 10 points with under 10 minutes to play. An 8-2 burst made it a two-point game when Harden's two free throws cut the score to 72-70 with under three minutes to play.
