BOSTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron is recovering from either a head or a neck injury suffered in Saturday's contest against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Bergeron was helped off the ice by teammates following a second-period collision with Carolina defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and did not return.

"He got dinged pretty good," Bruins Coach Claude Julien said after the Bruins' 4-2 victory.

"We've got to let the doctors take care of him," said goalie Manny Fernandez. "We really need him back, but I don't think other teams are going to take it easy on us because he's not in the lineup. We've got to concentrate on what's left and go from there."

The 33-year-old Bergeron missed most of last season with a concussion. Before Saturday, he had appeared in just 10 contests this season because he had not fully recovered.

To date, he has compiled 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) this season.

His playing status was not announced.
