NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Tom Benson, the 81-year-old owner of the New Orleans Saints, was recovering from cancer surgery Wednesday, team officials said.
Surgeons at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans removed a cancerous mass from Benson's left kidney Dec. 10 and released him from the hospital Sunday night.
"We anticipate a full and complete recovery, and he will not need any radiation or chemotherapy," Benson's physician, Dr. John Amoss, told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Amoss said the 3-centimeter mass was found during a CT scan and diagnosed as early-stage renal cell cancer. The disease had not spread.
Benson will undergo regular monitoring.
