NHL: New Jersey 5, Buffalo 3

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- David Clarkson's unassisted goal in the third period Wednesday helped provide the New Jersey Devils a 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Clarkson's sixth goal this season gave New Jersey an insurmountable 4-2 lead at 6:04 of the third period.

Also scoring in the third was Brian Rolston at 9:31 after Clarkson's assist.

Travis Zajac, Zach Parise (power play) and Bryce Salvador all scored once each.

Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias both had two assists, while goalie Scott Clemmensen made 23 saves on 26 shots for the Devils, who broke their two-game losing streak.

Buffalo's goals were scored by Drew Stafford in the first period, Patrick Kaleta in the second, and Paul Gaustad in the third.

Netminder Ryan Miller was beaten five times on 30 shots for the Sabres, who have lost two of three.

Parise's 18th was the game's lone power-play goal on eight combined man-advantage opportunities.
