Loyola-Marymount hoops coach on leave

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The return of Loyola-Marymount men's basketball coach Bill Bayno is uncertain following his extended leave of absence for undisclosed health-related reasons.

Bayno, 45, left the team Nov. 23, and it was thought he would return at some point this season.

"Recently, I was diagnosed with a serious medical condition, in part, related to the stress and anxiety of head coaching," he said in a statement. "It will require treatment which will force me to take a leave of absence. It is unfortunate and I feel badly for the university, the coaching staff and most of all my players and their families, all of whom I will miss very much. I ask for privacy for myself and my family and I thank you for your prayers and support."

Bayno, in his first season at the Los Angeles-based school, ended an eight-year absence from college basketball when signed a five-year contract with LMU in April.

He had filled several NBA posts.
