NHL: Washington 5, N.Y. Islanders 4 (OT)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Alex Ovechkin's goal late in overtime Tuesday gave the Washington Capitals a 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders, who have lost seven straight games.

Ovechkin's game-winner came on a wrist shot from the slot. He also had a goal in regulation play.

Boyd Gordon, Brooks Laich and Milan Jurcina scored the other goals in the Capitals' fourth straight win.

Washington goalie Brent Johnson was credited with 35 saves.

Doug Weight, Richard Park, Andy Sutton and Jon Sim scored, and Joe MacDonald blocked 40 shots for the Islanders.
