NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Chris Drury scored the lone shootout goal Saturday when the New York Rangers recorded a 3-2 win over Carolina.
Regulation and overtime ended in a 2-2 tie, with Markus Naslund and Blair Betts scoring for New York and Tuomo Ruutu and Ray Whitney scoring for Carolina.
Whitney's 10th goal this season at 7:19 of the second period tied it at 2-2 and that's the way it stayed until the shootout.
Henrik Lundqvist finished with 29 saves on 31 shots for the Rangers, who have won two of their last three games.
Cam Ward, who missed four games with a groin injury, made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped two in a row and five of six overall.
Carolina failed to score on eight power-play chances, while the Rangers went 1-for-5.
