HOUSTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Matt Schaub threw for 284 yards Sunday -- 207 of them to Andre Johnson -- leading Houston to a surprising 13-12 win over Tennessee.
The Titans (12-2), who won their first 10 games this season and have clinched a division title with a first-round bye, lost for the second time in four games. They entered Sunday's action needing either a victory over Houston or a loss by Pittsburgh against Baltimore to wrap up home-field advantage in the playoffs.
Houston (7-7), already eliminated from the post-season chase, has won four in a row. The Texans need victories in their final two games against Oakland and Chicago to produce the first winning season in their seven-year history.
Johnson caught a 13-yard pass in the second quarter for the game's only touchdown. He averaged 18.8 yards a catch Sunday and became the first receiver in team history with a 200-yard reception game.
Steve Slaton picked up 100 yards on 24 carries for the Texans and became the first running back to gain 100 yards against the Titans this season.
Tennessee managed only 281 yards of offense and got its points on four field goals from Rob Bironas.
Trailing by four, the Titans needed 6 yards for a first down on the Houston 16 with 5:27 to play and elected to kick a field goal.
Tennessee got the ball back at its own 17 with 3:55 to go and reached the Houston 32 before a fourth-down pass by Kerry Collins fell incomplete.
