ATLANTA, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Jason Elam kicked a 34-yard field goal with 4:04 left in overtime Sunday and Atlanta overcame three turnovers and a blocked punt to down Tampa Bay 13-10.
Atlanta and Tampa Bay emerged with 9-5 records, equaling the best in the NFC among those battling for a wild-card playoff berth.
Brian Griese, who got the start at quarterback for Tampa Bay because of an injured calf suffered by Jeff Garcia, threw for 269 yards and a touchdown.
Griese, however, was unable to lead the Bucs to a touchdown after they blocked an Atlanta punt at the Falcons' 22 with 2:29 to play in the fourth quarter. Tampa Bay had to settle for a 38-yard field goal by Matt Bryant that forced overtime.
After winning the overtime coin toss, Tampa Bay committed a holding penalty on the kickoff and started from its own 7-yard line. Two first downs later, the Bucs had to punt and Atlanta drove 55 yards in 11 plays to set up Elam's game-winning kick.
The Falcons' Matt Ryan threw for 206 yards, but was intercepted twice. Michael Turner, who went into the weekend as the NFL's second-leading rusher, picked up 152 yards on 32 carries and scored on a 1-yard run that gave Atlanta a 10-0 lead late in the first period.
There have been 11 divisional matchups in the NFC South this season and the home team has won them all.
