TEMPE, Ariz., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Overtime baskets by Jeff Pendergraph and Derek Glasser Sunday gave No. 18 Arizona State a 59-58 victory over Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
The Sun Devils scored first to go up 2-0, but quickly fell behind 21-5 and never led again in regulation. The Jaguars owned a 34-18 advantage at halftime and clung to the lead until Rihards Kuksiks tied it with a three-pointer with 2:09 to go.
Neither team managed another point in regulation and the game went to overtime deadlocked at 55-55.
Pendergraph put the Sun Devils in front with 3:17 to go in the extra period and Glasser made a jump shot a minute later for a four-point lead.
Gary Patterson brought IUPUI within one by hitting a three-pointer with 2:03 remaining, but he missed another long attempt with 50 seconds to go and Alex Young also failed to connect on a long desperation try with a second left.
Arizona State improved to 8-1, its only loss coming at home to Baylor Nov. 29. The Jaguars slipped to 5-4.
