WEST POINT, N.Y., Dec. 12 (UPI) -- The United States Military Academy fired head football coach Stan Brock Friday after a 6-18 overall record in three seasons at West Point.

The dismissal follows a season-ending 34-0 loss to Navy, which left Army with a 3-9 record in 2008.

The loss in the season's final contest was Army's seventh straight against the Midshipmen.

Brock was an assistant under Bobby Ross from 2004-06 before taking assuming the top job at West Point.

"I'd like to thank Stan for his hard work and dedication to the Army football program for the past five years and wish him and his family well in the future," director of athletics Kevin Anderson said in a statement.

Brock's successor will be Army's fifth head coach since the 2000 season.

Army has not had a winning season since going 10-2 in 1996 under Bob Sutton.

Anderson said a national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
