PITTSBURGH, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Petr Sykora and Pascal Dupuis both recorded hat tricks Thursday, the first of their NHL careers, leading Pittsburgh to a 9-2 blasting of the New York Islanders.

The Penguins halted a three-game losing streak in overwhelming fashion, scoring two more goals than they had managed in any previous game this season.

Sykora added an assist and Miroslav Satan had a goal and two assists. Evgeni Malkin, who leads the league with 48 points, had a goal and an assist as one of 13 Penguins to get on the score sheet.

Pittsburgh scored four times in both the first and second periods and John Curry coasted to the victory by making 24 saves.

The Islanders have lost five in a row and seven out of eight.

Joey MacDonald gave up four goals on 19 shots in the opening period before being replaced by Yann Danis. The Penguins kept up the assault by scoring five times against Danis on 19 shots.

Three of Pittsburgh's goals came on the power play.
