Texas Longhorn wins Lombardi Award

HOUSTON, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo won the Lombardi Award Wednesday, an honor that goes to the nation's top college lineman or linebacker.

He became the first member of the Longhorns to win the award in 24 years.

It was the third major honor of the award season for Orakop, who has collected the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (top defensive player) and Ted Hendricks Award (top defensive end). He also was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

Orakpo finished the season with 10.5 sacks, 18 tackles for a loss and four forced fumbles. He has 21 sacks in his collegiate career.
