ATLANTA, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Scott Gomez needed just 18 seconds of overtime to produce the winning goal Wednesday, giving the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.

Gomez stormed up the center of the ice with Markus Naslund on his left. Naslund sent a shot rolling toward goaltender Johan Hedberg, who failed to handle the puck cleanly. Gomez was there to backhand the rebound into the net.

Ryan Callahan and Colton Orr also scored for the Rangers, who had lost their previous two games. Defenseman Wade Redden assisted on all three goals after having missed last Sunday's game with an injury.

Steve Valiquette made 27 saves to record his fifth decision (3-2) of the season.
