
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- DeAngelo Williams had a franchise-record 186 yards rushing and scored twice Monday night when the Carolina Panthers beat Tampa Bay 38-23.
Jonathan Stewart rolled up 115 yards rushing and also scored two TDs for the Panthers (10-3) who took over first place from the Buccaneers in the NFC South.
Williams and Stewart became the first running back tandem in NFL history to rush for more than 100 yards and average more than six yards per carry each in two games in the same season. They previously did it this season against the Detroit Lions.
They did it Monday night against a Tampa Bay defense that had held its opponents to an average of 95.4 rushing yards per game this season.
In all, the Panthers rushed for 299 yards against the Bucs.
Jake Delhomme was 14-of-20 passing for 173 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Steve Smith gained 117 yards and scored once on nine catches for Carolina.
Jeff Garcia went 24-of-38 passing for 321 yards and two TDs for Tampa Bay (9-4). Antonio Bryant caught nine passes for 200 yards and the two scores.
