Broncos fullback lost for rest of season

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Denver rookie fullback Peyton Hillis will miss the rest of the season after tearing his hamstring in the Broncos' win over Kansas City Sunday.

Hillis is Denver's leading rusher this season with 343 yards and five touchdowns. He has also caught 14 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown.

Hillis became the fifth Broncos running back to go on injured reserve this year, joining Ryan Torain, Michael Pittman, Anthony Alridge and Andre Hall.

Denver Coach Mike Shanahan said Hillis's recovery will be about eight weeks. The fullback will visit a specialist before a decision on surgery is made. Hillis was hurt when he landed on his leg fully extended after a catch.

That leaves Denver with Tatum Bell and Selvin Young in the backfield, though Young has not played since Nov. 6, when he ran once for 2 yards.
