LAS VEGAS, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Manny "Pac Man" Pacquiao scored an eight-round technical knockout over Oscar De La Hoya in Las Vegas Saturday night after winning all eight rounds on points.

The 29-year-old Filipino was ahead on all three judges' scorecards when De La Hoya, 35, failed to answer the bell for the ninth round in the much-hyped bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), the current WBC lightweight champ, was fighting for the first time in his career at more than 135 pounds.

De La Hoya (39-6), fighting at 145 pounds, was at his lightest fighting weight since he beat Arturo Gatti in 2001.

De La Hoya threw 402 punches but landed just 83. Pacquiao threw 585 punches, landing 224.
