
ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Ryan Getzlaf scored three times in the second period for his first NHL hat trick Sunday when the Anaheim Ducks skated to a 5-3 victory against Columbus.
Getzlaf, who is in his fifth NHL season, increased his goal total this season to 12 with his third goal of the game at 17:55 of the second.
Bobby Ryan and Rob Niedermayer (unassisted) both scored in the third, while Jean-Sebastien Giguere surrendered three goals on 32 shots, 14 in a fierce Blue Jackets' third period rally.
Columbus got goals from Derick Brassard (power play) in the second period, and Kris Russell and Fredrik Modin in the third.
Pascal Leclaire yielded five goals on 34 shots in the Blue Jackets' third loss in a row.
On the power play, Columbus went 1-for-5, and Anaheim went 0-for-3.
