Former NBA player Orlando Woolridge arrested for theft
SEATTLE, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Southern California offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be named the next head football coach at Washington at a Monday news conference.
He will take over from Tyrone Willingham, who was fired following an 0-12 2008 season, which ended Saturday with a dismal 48-7 loss to California.
Sarkisian, 34, has never been a head coach at any level, but has been an assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach at USC since 2005, and also from 2001-2003. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders in 2004.
"I'm thrilled to have Steve heading up our football program," UW President Mark A. Emmert said on the school's Web site. "He's a very talented, energetic coach with a great work ethic and values that match the UW. His challenge is very clear -- we believe he's entirely up to it, and we look forward to a return of the glory years for Husky football."
Sarkisian will be the Huskies' 23rd head football coach.
He was a second-team All-America quarterback at BYU in 1967.
