DALLAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Mike Modano scored the game-winning goal in the fourth round of the shootout Friday, giving the Dallas Stars a 2-1 victory over Colorado.

Modano put a wrist shot over the glove of Peter Budaj and Marty Turco then made a pad save for Dallas on a low backhand shot by Ryan Smith.

It was a rare outstanding performance for Turco, whose struggles this year have helped push Dallas near the bottom of the Western Conference. He stopped 26 shots in regulation and overtime and then saved three out of four in the shootout.

Dallas, which got a regulation goal from Toby Petersen, has won three out of four.

Colorado has lost two straight.

The Avalanche forced overtime on a goal from Marek Svatos with 55.5 seconds left in the third period.
