NEW YORK, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A doctor was suspended for allegedly trying to cover up N.Y. Giants star Plaxico Burress's treatment for a gunshot wound, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
Dr. Josyann Abisaab, 44, allegedly signed off on medical papers identifying her patient by a phony name and failed to notify police of a shooting, sources told the Post.
The doctor said she was mysteriously summoned to New York-Cornell Hospital in the middle of the night last weekend to treat Burress for the self-inflicted wound.
Burress, meanwhile, who shot himself in the leg at the Latin Quarter nigh club Saturday night, was placed by the Giants on the non-football injury list, ending his season without pay for "conduct detrimental to the team." He also was reported suspended for four games and fined an undisclosed amount.
Police have filed weapons charges against him, as well.
