MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Gus Frerotte passed for one touchdown and ran for another Sunday, helping Minnesota assume sole possession of the NFC North with a 34-14 win over Chicago.

The Vikings had entered the game in a three-way tie with the Bears and Green Bay, who fell to Carolina.

Frerotte earned a spot in the NFL and Minnesota record books when he hit former Bear Bernard Berrian for a team-best 99-yard score late in the second quarter that came on the first play after Minnesota stopped Chicago on four straight tries to get into the end zone from the 1-yard line. The Bears had led 7-3 at the time.

The play tied the longest from scrimmage in NFL history; 10 other teams have accomplished the feat.

The veteran quarterback completed 16-of-25 passes for 210 yards as the Vikings (7-5) won for the fourth time in five games. Berrian got four of his passes for 122 yards.

Adrian Peterson produced 131 yards and a TD on 28 carries.

Kyle Orton completed 11-of-29 throws for 153 yards and two scores but was intercepted three times for Chicago (6-6), which has lost three of its last four. Orton threw a 65-yard scoring pass to Devin Hester. Matt Forte ran 22 times for 96 yards and caught a TD pass.
