DENVER, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Denver scored three times in the first period Saturday but needed David Jones's game-winner late in the third period to secure a 4-3 win over Tampa Bay.
Wojtek Wolski scored twice and Jordan Leopold (power play) got the Avalanche's other goal. Andrew Raycroft kicked out 17 Lightning shots as Colorado won for the third time in five games.
Tampa Bay's scoring came from Vincent Lecavalier, Ryan Malone and Steven Stamkos, who each tallied a goal and an assist.
The Lightning have lost four in a row.
Starter Olaf Kolzig was pulled from the Tampa nets after allowing three goals on 10 shots through the first 20 minutes. Mike Smith allowed one goal on 21 shots over the final two periods.
Jones scored on a back-hander 3:42 into the third period for a 4-1 Colorado lead. Tampa got power-play goals from Malone and Stamkos to pull within one but the comeback attempt was strangled when Paul Ranger was called for a penalty with 2:16 to go.
