PITTSBURGH, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Sydney Crosby recorded his first hat trick this season Saturday, boosting the Pittsburgh Penguins past the New Jersey Devils 4-1.
He scored in every period, including into an empty net with nearly three minutes left in the third period.
Crosby also assisted when Petr Sykora scored on the power play at 7:26 of the second, and increased his goal total to 13 this season.
Goalie Dany Sabourin made 29 saves on 30 shots for the Penguins, who have split their four contests.
The only goal scored on Sabourin came at 1:54 of the second period by Michael Rupp after assists by Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta.
Scott Clemmensen was beaten three times on 34 shots for the Devils, whose five-game winning streak is history.
The Devils had won six of the previous seven games in Pittsburgh.
On the power play, Pittsburgh went 1-for-5 and the Devils 0-for-4.
