Boise State finishes regular season unbeaten

BOISE, Idaho, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Ian Johnson scored two of Boise State's seven second-half touchdowns Friday and the Broncos ended an unbeaten regular season by blasting Fresno State 61-10.

Boise State owned only a 13-10 lead at halftime, but Jeremy Avery started an explosion of points by running 43 yards for a touchdown 3:10 into the third period.

The Broncos finished 12-0 for the third time in five seasons, but will likely not receive an at-large invitation to play in one of the BCS bowl games. They received such an invitation two years ago and stunned Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.

After Avery's touchdown run, Kyle Wilson scored on a 90-yard punt return, Tanyon Bissell threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Julian Hawkins and Tommy Gallarda caught a 16-yard touchdown throw from Kellen Moore.

That made it 41-10 going into the fourth quarter, during which Johnson scored on two short runs. D.J. Harper finished things off with a 10-yard touchdown run with 4:35 to play.

Johnson gained 127 yards on 13 carries and Moore completed 17 of 23 passes for 213 yards.

Boise State had wrapped up the Western Athletic Conference title with one game to play. Fresno State is 7-5 for the year and finished 4-4 in the WAC.

Boston winning streak reaches seven

BOSTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Ray Allen scored 23 points Friday and Boston blew the game open in the second quarter en route to a 102-78 decision over Philadelphia.

The Celtics won their seventh straight and improved the best record in the Eastern Conference to 15-2.

Boston expanded a six-point lead after one period into an 18-point cushion at halftime. The Celtics held the 76ers scoreless for almost the first 4 minutes of the second quarter.

Kevin Garnett added 15 points and the Boston bench received most of the second-half playing time. Leon Powe, Tony Allen and Glen Davis all scored 10 for the Celtics.

Philadelphia was led by Elton Brand with 18. The 76ers showed little fight until Marreese Speights committed a hard foul in the final minute that led to his ejection from the contest.

Duke breezes past Duquesne

DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Reserve Lance Thomas scored 21 points with six rebounds, Friday fueling fifth-ranked Duke's 95-72 rout over Duquesne.

Hiller's shutout gives Ducks three wins in a row

ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Jonas Hiller recorded his second career shutout Friday in Anaheim's 1-0 victory over Chicago.

Hiller, in his second NHL season, filled in for regular starter Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who returned to his hometown of Montreal for family reasons.

Chicago peppered Hiller with 15 shots in the second period and the Anaheim goaltender stopped 26 overall.

The game's lone goal came from Ryan Getzlaf at 15:19 of the second period after assists by Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan. It was Getzlaf's ninth of the year and brought the Ducks their third straight victory following five losses in six games.

Cristobal Huet stopped 20 shots in the Blackhawks' second straight loss.

Anaheim is 13-2 in its last 15 contests against Chicago.
