GLENDALE, Ariz., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Mikael Tellqvist stopped 37 of 38 shots Friday to help the Phoenix Coyotes record a 2-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche.

The only goal he surrendered was by Ryan Smyth at 4:07 of the third period.

Tellqvist turned away 17 shots in the second and 14 others in the third.

Phoenix got one goal each from Derek Morris in the first period and Kevin Porter in the second.

Overall, the Coyotes have won two in a row on the heels of a six-game losing streak.

Netminder Peter Budaj gave up two goals on 20 shots for the Avalanche, who have dropped four of their last six games.

On the power play, both clubs went 0-for-4.

Colorado forward Joe Sakic skated one shift but left when his back injury flared up and Phoenix forward Olli Jokinen's streak of 397 straight games played came to an end because of a left shoulder injury.
