LOS ANGELES, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Marek Svatos scored the shootout winner and goalie Peter Budaj stopped 27 shots to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-3 win Saturday over Los Angeles.
During the shootout, Svatos pushed a backhander between the pads of Kings goalie Erok Ersberg and, following a Budaj save against Dustin Brown, Milan Hejduk iced the game with a backhander of his own. Colorado's win came after losing two straight home-and-home contests against Calgary.
Paul Stastny and Wojtek Wolski each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, while Hejduk also scored in regulation in addition to his shootout tally.
Patrick O'Sullivan, Brown and Alexander Frolov tallied for the Kings, who had won five of their previous seven. Ersberg took the loss, logging 26 saves and getting beat twice in the shootout.
Stastny's perfect deflection of Scott Hannan's pass tied the game, 3-3, for Colorado at the 4:31 mark of the third after the Avalanche had blown a 2-0 lead by letting the Kings score three straight goals.
