ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Trevon Hughes' 22 points and three rebounds Sunday led No. 22 Wisconsin to a 64-49 win over San Diego.
The win in the semifinals at the Paradise Jam college basketball tournament in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, vaulted Wisconsin into the title match Monday against No. 2 Connecticut, which beat 16th-ranked Miami-Fla. 76-63 in an earlier semifinal.
Because of offensive balance, Keaton Nankivil, with 10 points, was the only other player in double figures for the Badgers (4-0), who won the 2005 event, their only other appearance in St. Thomas.
They gradually pulled away from a 26-20 halftime lead and held a 28-25 rebounding edge.
Marcus Landry scored nine points, while both Tim Jarmusz and Jason Bohannon scored eight points.
San Diego got 19 points with five rebounds from Brandon Johnson.
Gyno Pomare, the only other player in double figures, added 10 points and four rebounds for the Toreros (2-2), who were the Badgers' 24th straight non-Big Ten conquest.
