Hawks end four-game losing streak

ATLANTA, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A three-pointer by Marvin Williams with 26 seconds remaining Wednesday put Atlanta in front and the Hawks hung on to down Washington 91-87.

Atlanta halted a four-game losing streak, which came on the heels of six straight victories to start the season.

Washington remained stuck on a single victory all year. The Wizards have lost their last three.

Williams' shot gave the Hawks an 89-87 lead and Atlanta survived two Washington attempts to tie it -- a jumper from Juan Dixon and a missed follow shot by Nick Young.

Atlanta's Ronald Murray was then fouled with 10 seconds to play and his two free throws accounted for the final score.

Mike Bibby paced Atlanta with 25 points and Williams had 21. Joe Johnson added 19, but he made only seven of 22 shots from the field.

The Wizards were led by 32 points from Caron Butler.

Report: Mike Mussina to retire

NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Mike Mussina, who is 187 strikeouts short of 3,000 for his career, reportedly has decided to retire.

Foxsports.com reported Wednesday Mussina plans to announce his retirement this week.

Mussina has been in the major leagues for 18 years, having spent the last eight of them with the New York Yankees. He reached 20 wins last season for the first time in his career.

His 2,813 strikeouts rank sixth among active pitchers and 19th on the all-time list. His first 10 years in the majors were spent with Baltimore.

Mussina has a career record of 270-153 and an ERA of 3.68. He will turn 40 in December.

Agent says Edgerrin James wants trade

GLENDALE, Ariz., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Sports agent Drew Rosenhaus says the Arizona Cardinals have rejected a trade request from veteran running back Edgerrin James.

The 10-year veteran lost his starting job to rookie Tim Hightower before the Cardinals' 34-13 win over St. Louis Nov. 2 and has had only three carries for five yards in the past three games.

"We spoke with (General Manager) Rod Graves because Edgerrin still believes he is a 1,000-yard back and he is healthy and he is still capable of being a 1,000-yard back for a team," Rosenhaus told ESPN. "He is not playing now, and there are teams that are banged up at the running back position that he could help. We didn't get the answer we were hoping for (but) he will continue to dialogue with Cardinals management. Edgerrin isn't trying to cause any problems. He has enjoyed his stay in Arizona."

James needs eight yards for 12,000 career rushing yards.

Adam Jones reinstated again

IRVING, Texas, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday defensive back Adam Jones has been reinstated from his most recent suspension.

The team owner said the player would have to miss the Cowboys' next two games, but could return for a contest at Pittsburgh Dec. 7.

After a series of run-ins with the law, Adam Jones was suspended for the entire 2007 season and released by the Tennessee Titans. He signed with Dallas prior to the current season and Commissioner Roger Goodell allowed him to play once the regular campaign began.

Adam Jones, however, became involved in an alcohol-related altercation with one of his own bodyguards and was suspended again.
