Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Marek Zidlicky scored the winning shootout goal and Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves Tuesday to give Minnesota a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh.
After the overtime session ended with the score tied 1-1, Petr Sykora's backhand was gloved down by Backstrom to start the shootout. Zidlicky followed by sliding a forehand shot around Dany Sabourin.
Mikko Koivu was credited with Minnesota's regulation goal against Sabourin off a faceoff to help the Wild to their fourth win in their last five games.
Matt Cooke scored the lone goal for the Penguins, who had a six-game winning streak end.
