NHL: Carolina 3, Tampa Bay 2 (SO)

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Tuomo Ruutu's shootout goal was the game-winner for Carolina Sunday in a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Hurricanes' ended a three-game losing streak.

Rod Brind'Amour and Wade Brookbank each scored a goal in regulation and Cam Ward blocked 26 shots for Carolina.

Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa Bay, which has dropped four straight contests.

Lightning goaltender Mike Smith made 28 saves.

Tampa Bay played its first game under Rick Toccet, who became interim coach Friday after Coach Barry Melrose was fired.
