SANDY, Utah, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Dave van den Bergh scored in the 28th minute Saturday night to lead the New York Red Bulls to a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake and a trip to the MLS title game.

The Western Conference champion Red Bulls will meet Eastern Conference champion Columbus for the MLS Cup Championship Nov. 23 in Carson, Calif., after eliminating Real Salt Lake Saturday despite being outshot 24-11.

All in all, New York took an unlikely path to the MLS title game -- just barely reaching the playoffs, playing in the Western Conference bracket and then winning two straight matches on the road. The Red Bulls upset two-time defending champion Houston before dropping Real Salt Lake.
