MADISON, Wis., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Forward Marcus Landry scored a team-best 23 points Sunday and No. 21 Wisconsin downed inspired Long Beach State 68-61.

Wisconsin held a nine-point lead midway through the second half, and led 55-47 after a Jon Leuer layup with a little more than nine minutes left. But a layup by Long Beach guard Donovan Morris started a 10-2 49ers run, with forward Arturas Lazdauskas's basket creating a 57-57 tie with about five minutes left.

Landry's three-pointer lifted Wisconsin out of danger.

Guard Jason Bohannon scored 12 points with three assists, but no other player scored in double digits in the season-opening victory for the defending Big Ten Conference champions.

Morris led Long Beach with 12 points, but was the only player in double figures for the defensive-minded 49ers (0-2).
